Obituary for Giorgio Lovison
Lovison, Giorgio Emanuele
On July 16, 2017, Giorgio Lovison died suddenly and unexpectedly after suffering a massive brain bleed. Predeceased by his mother, Carmen, in 2007, his father, Cleto, in 2008 and his brother, Sergio, in 1996, Giorgio is survived by his sisters Lydia (Tom) and Laura, his nephews Alec and Isaac, and many loving zii e cugini in Canada, Italy and Australia.
Giorgio will be remembered for his warm and gregarious nature and his clever sense of humour. He took a particular interest in the lives of his nephews, Alec and Isaac, watching them mature from children into fine young men and taking great pleasure in their achievements—as students, athletes and musicians.
Giorgio’s mother Carmen was an extraordinary cook and he seized the opportunity to learn from her. He took a great interest in cooking and his enthusiasm, skills and technique on the barbeque especially were greatly admired and appreciated by all.
Lively, boisterous mealtime gatherings were a Lovison family tradition while Carmen and Cleto were alive. After they died, the tradition continued with cousin Antonio, his spouse, Tina, and their children Julia, Luca and Stefano. Everyone looks back fondly upon the special Christmas and Easter dinners and annual East Van Panto performances they all shared with Giorgio.
It was a gift that Giorgio was well enough to attend a gathering at Zefferelli’s in late June this year to celebrate the high school graduations of Isaac and Julia. It was a typically noisy and cheery Italian meal. Giorgio was there as the proud uncle and he engaged happily with everyone. No one could have known that it would be the last event his family would share with him.
Giorgio, we all miss you—Ci mancherai sempre. Where you are now, you have rejoined other, deeply missed family members and you have found the peace that eluded you when you were with us in this world.
The family wishes to thank the medical team at VGH, and in particular Aly J., who provided such outstanding care for Giorgio and support for his family after Giorgio’s emergency admission. The family also wishes to thank Giorgio’s close friend, Tom, who also keenly feels the loss. The family is grateful for the friendship he had with Giorgio and for the laughter he brought into his life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Giorgio on Saturday, July 22 at 11:00 a.m., St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 2015 Napier Street, Vancouver, B.C. In lieu of flowers, persons wishing to make donations may do so to the charities of their choice.
