We are saddened to announce the passing of Peter Mikicich, following a brief illness shortly after his 93rd birthday. Peter was a devoted husband to Nada (who predeceased him in 2014), and a great father to Paulina (Nazzareno) and Stephen, and a loving “Jedo” to his granddaughters Diana and Adriana. He was born in Zamlaca, Croatia on June 27th, 1925 and arrived in Canada in 1957. He married Nada in 1960, and together they built a home, raised a family, and enjoyed a long, happy marriage.
Working in construction from the 1950s through the mid-1970s, Peter helped to build many of Vancouver’s landmark buildings. He later worked for CP Air (later Canadian Airlines), and enjoyed 28 years of retirement. After Nada’s passing, he found companionship and made new friends at Crossreach Adult Day Centre and Point Grey Private Hospital. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 19th at 10:00am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Croatian Roman Catholic Parish (3105 East 1st Avenue, Vancouver). Entombment will follow at the South Mausoleum, Ocean View Burial Park (4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby). A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 21st at 12:00pm at Seasons in the Park Restaurant (Summit Room) at Queen Elizabeth Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory to Crossreach Project of Vancouver (www.crossreachseniors.com) would be greatly appreciated. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.bellburnaby.com.
